Zacatecas Profile

Zacatecas is one of north-central Mexico’s most interesting cities. Capital of the eponymous state, its name comes from zacate, a nahuatl word referring to the surrounding grasslands that today provide excellent pasture. Located in a narrow canyon at 2,700 meters (8,900 feet) above sea level, Zacatecas gets mighty chilly on winter evenings. This lively city has plenty of great museums and lovely baroque churches made of locally quarried pink sandstone.

Santa Rita
Zacatecas, one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Mexico, boasts a city center that displays striking architectural gems. Discreetly placed between the stunning 19th-century Calderón Theater and the city´s cathedral, Hotel Santa Rita blends in effortlessly with a 200-year-old faade that rivals any downtown historical building. Beyond the threshold is where this new boutique hotel truly sets itself apart. Its lovingly remodeled interior is nothing less than modern, bold and a complete contrast with its traditional exterior. Here elegance reigns and art is celebrated throughout.
